During the 2024 Salone del Mobile, I served as the lead animator for "Under the Surface," an installation conceived and curated by illustrator Emiliano Ponzi, Accurat, Salotto NYC and Design Group Italia.
"UNDER THE SURFACE" is a fantastical world designed to transport visitors to a different place, aiming to amaze and excite them. Immersed in a landscape of submerged islands and sunlight reflections on the sea bed, visitors also discover data about water consumption. This installation narrates the complexity of the world we live in, emphasizing that we can no longer just analyze the surface of things; we need to delve deeper.
A large, colorful iceberg serves as the canvas for projections displaying global water consumption and resource data. Embedded within the iceberg are showcases featuring animations that highlight innovations from the Salone del Mobile, which promote water conservation.
For me, it was particularly interesting to combine the more artistic elements typical of Emiliano's drawings with the precision of Accurat's data visualizations.
My collaboration with Accurat started three years ago and it was a great honor to partecipate in this project and to take care of the visual part, experimenting with new physical supports and trying to organize the project thinking about the installation.
From Accurat’s team Tommaso Renzini, Andrea Giambelli, Francesco Cordola, Alessandro Zotta, Giovanni Marchi, Davide Bruno, Carolina Giacomin took care of the data visualizations and the concept; Benedetta Menaggia and Matteo Fabbri tailored the sound design.
Thanks to Lorenzo Maffei, who helped me with the particular animations inside the cases.
